RE: Indoor Storage- Western Wisconsin

Yes, there are RV Condos about 2 miles East of Stillwater into Wisconson. My Father in Law owns one and keeps his RV there. Really nice place but I don't think there are any rental opportunities there. One to fit your 40ft RV will run you about $45,000 and they have overhead power doors and gas heat. There are also association dues as they now have a Dump Station, Fresh Water, Bathrooms all on site. I believe there are plans for a self service RV wash also, but you will need to purchase a lifetime user card for that for a couple thousand $. Nice place to keep the RV if your interested in a longer term investment.

RE: Do you have a Cummins 5.9 ISB in your DP?

yup...ISB 300 behind a MH2000 Allison.
Love it. Just returned this week from a 1500 mile touring the UP of Michigan. No tow and averaged close to 10mpg. 35,000 flawless miles so far!!!

RE: 2004 Holiday Rambler over heating

If it is a rear radiator DP, then the Holiday Rambler (Roadmaster) will have the coolers and radiator stacked and not sandwiched together, which makes it very easy to see and clean both sides of the radiator. When I clean mine with simple green and a garden hose, I get a little wet doing the engine side as I use a creeper and you have to get up in behind the engine, however you can spray in on the radiator fairly easy once your up under there.
My fear in your situation would be that you will pay $1,000 for a R&R and cleaning, but once it is all back together may have the same problem due to other issues.

RE: FMCA convention St. Paul MN

I think it depends on what types of things you like to do or see. If your anything like me, then you would really enjoy the one suggestion already and go up along the great lakes and up the North Shore a little ways to some of the state parks (gooseberry falls, splitrock lighthouse)...then back down interstate 35 to St Paul. You can base camp in Two Harbors at the muni campground called Burlington Bay which site on the shores of Lake Superior. If you want an one or two night base to walk around in Duluth, we have stayed at Lakehead Boat Basin. Basically a secured parking lot with full hook ups and a nice view. (used for dry docking boats in the winter. Duluth has some neat historical things to do also such as train and ship museums. If you like gambling you can hit Grand Casino on the way toward the St Paul half way from Duluth. Nice RV Park and large fun casino. Near the south end of the cities you got the Zoo and Mall of America. Mystic Lake casino also has a nice RV park near that area called Dakota Meadows. All depends on what types of activities and sights you like....

RE: It just got to be hurting, Can't be only regional.

I was at that "5-Star Resort" (Hinckley Rv Park - I still cant believe they call that place a 5-Star Resort..ok campground but RV resort?) two weeks prior and it was not full and I only paid $11 a night with GS discount, but still very busy for that time of year....and it was a cold weekend at that. Wait until the outdoor pool opens and you will be lucky to get one of the 225+ sites on a weekend. I still have an open weekend in July that I need reservations for and I am having a hard time finding a place with a couple open sites!

RE: question on running temp

I know it is not the same engine, but my ISB 300 in my 2003 (Monaco rear radiator) runs at 200-203 on the dash gauge all the time and has done so since new. Does not fluctuate outside of those numbers going up mountains or coasting downhill. Who knows how accurate the dash gauge is, but I figure since it does not fluctuate and I have no warnings ever, I am pretty safe.
Others running my same set up in a Monaco said their gauges read the same...200

RE: I'm replacing my slide toppers

Personally I would not use vinyl on my slide toppers as a replacement. I currently have the woven acrylic material for my awning and slide toppers and they dry when rolled up. Several friends we camp with pull thier vinyl ones out when we get to our destination and they stink and are all green from algae because they sat for a month all wet and rolled up.
Now, if your slides are out most of the time, don't get wet and then get rolled up for periods of time..then it might be just fine.

RE: Coach Net service question

I have had Coach-Net ever since we bought our new motorhome in 2003. In the 5 years I have never had to call them for service or assistance (knock on wood) and hope to not have to either, however I will continue to carry them.
I figured I wanted to get something for my yearly dues, so I ordered the free trip planner on the website for our upcoming Great Lakes tour this summer. I was extremely impressed at what they sent me. It was a great personalized planner with more detail then I ever thought I would get (fuel stops, tours, etc). I know it is not a big deal as it is the service we really carry these things for...but it did impress me.

RE: Vintage Recommendations

If I was looking at buying something from the 80's, it would definitely be something that was considered a "high line" motorhome back then. The prices on 20 something year old motorhomes are not that much different between brands, and certain high end models from that era are built extremely well, while others can be falling apart. My parents are now in the process of selling their 1983 Apollo that they have owned for 24 years. It has all steel cage construction and thick fiberglass, including a one piece thick fiberglass roof. All solid wood cabinets, etc. You can definitely see a bid difference in comparing it to a cheaper RV from that time. Other good ones might be Airstream, Sportscoach, Foretravel, etc.
Any RV from the 80's will probably require an owner that is handy and mechanically inclined..

RE: Window Awning strap

lavocat, To replace the awning strap you have to slide the rubber dowel from the slot it’s in. This can be a pain because most of the time there is not enough room between the roller tube and the end cap. If you remove the end cap, you have to be careful that the spring does not unwind too fast. I have found that if you get a drill bit slightly larger than the rubber dowel and you drill a hole near the end of the at a 45 degree angle into the slot the strap is in, you can slide the rubber over and using a small screw driver get the rubber to enter the hole you just drilled it will come right out. The new strap will go back in the same way. Have done this a number of times ands it works. With the hole drilled off to the side, the strap cannot come out one its own, because the tension keeps it centered.
This is great advice. This is exactly how I replaced mine and it worked perfectly.

RE: Window Awning strap

You can also order the original replacement strap (carefree or A&E) directly from Monaco's on-line store. I did that and they were a perfect fit. Got a new one for the main awning as long as I was already ordering and keep the old one for a spare.

RE: Does anyone have boost gauge on ISB 275RV engine

I also have an ISB 300 (2003 model) and the highest number on my dash guage is 30psi. Under heavy load it seems like the needle is pegged at the 30 mark. Under normal flat driving at 65mph, I run between 16-19 psi.

RE: Any other boaters??

About 90% of the time we are using the RV, we are pulling our Celebrity 180 bowrider with a Mercruiser 4.3 I/O. We love camping at the lake and boating all day.

RE: Hadley air horns

I had the Hadley Ambassadors installed on my 2003 Neptune at Camping World. I think at the time it was something around $330 for the horns and the entire bill with the horns and Labor was just over $500. They turned out really nice on the Neptune and I don't regret the expense for a second. They ran the air tube down the driver side pillar and through the fire wall. Was a good clean job and if I had the time it would not have been that hard to do.
There was a good spot on the right side of the genny near the frame rail for the mounting of the compressor and tank

RE: I still have math problems??

Exactly!! I did that analysis also just to show other family members and friends that even at $4-$5 a gallon my family trips will be less expensive than theirs. One of my family members just flew her family of 5 down to Florida for a week and spend $1,900 on airfare alone, and that is just one week!
The rise in gas/fuel prices has a much more significant impact on my daily work commute then it does on my RV travels. I wish it were cheaper in that regard!!!

RE: Air conditioner cover repair

I just replaced my two Duo Therm A/C shrouds as the front one developed a crack. While removing I noticed the entire shroud was brittle from age and sun as compared to how flexible the new ones were. I got the original Dometic Duo Therm replacement shrouds from Camping World for $75 each. I thought it was worth it...

RE: How to quiet a noisy water pump?

I bought the silencer kit from Camping World, which is basically just two soft lines for the input and output side of the pump. They make a circle and hook up to the hard lines that used to be directly on the pump. Made a huge difference in noise and vibration.
